Next-generation water treatment serving 280,000 residents

Client

City of Newark, NJ

Location

Newark, New Jersey

Duration

28 months

Area

14 acres

Budget

Completed

2023

A state-of-the-art water treatment facility replacing Newark's aging 1960s infrastructure, incorporating UV disinfection, advanced filtration membranes, and automated chemical dosing systems capable of treating 80 million gallons per day. The facility achieved LEED Silver certification and will operate for a minimum 50-year design life.

The Challenge

The facility had to be built adjacent to the existing operational plant and brought online in a single cutover event, requiring flawless commissioning coordination to avoid any interruption to the water supply of 280,000 residents.

Our Solution

BuildCraft's commissioning team ran six months of parallel-path testing on all critical systems before the final cutover, which was executed in a 4-hour window at 2am on a Sunday, achieving seamless transition with zero service interruption.
